Important Information for All Players
Players are responsible for:
- Being on time for all practices and games. Arrive at the field at least 15 minutes before scheduled game time for warm ups and position assignments.
- Telling the coach in advance if you are unable to attend a game or practice. If your team does not have enough players for a game it must forfeit.
- Keeping toenails and fingernails cut short. Don't wear jewelry; rings, watches, bracelets, earrings, hair fasteners, etc.
- Keeping eyeglasses on an elastic strap so they won't fall off.
- Not playing if you don't feel well or are wearing a cast or splint.
- Not wearing or carrying anything that could possibly cause injury to themselves or others. Referees can exclude any player who, in their opinion, is wearing something which may cause injury.
- Wearing the complete uniform prescribed by the Stoneham Soccer Club: Jersey, shorts and socks. Jerseys should be worn tucked into the shorts. Shin pads are also required.
- Wearing the proper footwear. Cleats are recommended, and if worn shall be an approved rubber type. Metal cleats and baseball type cleats shall not be worn.
- Making sure shoelaces are tied tightly before a game.
- Attending one practice during the week (except in Clinic league).
Players' Code of Conduct
Behavior such as interfering with play or other players will be acted upon by the Board of Directors.
Players will:
- Be encouraging, supportive, & affirmative in regard to teammates' play on the field in word and deed. Please do not use bad language or negative comments.
- Never make negative comments about opponents or the way they play - talk up your own team instead.
- Respect officials & accept their decisions.
- Become familiar with the rules of the game.
- Never engage in dissent directed toward an official.
- Never engage in any kind or type of unsportsmanlike conduct with any official, coach, player, or parent.
- Never interfere at any time with the duties and responsibilities of the coach or manager.
- Never act in any manner which is detrimental to the team or the Club.
Please see below for some very important reminders for player safety.
Your child must wear shin guards to all games and practices.
If your child does not have shin guards, he/she will NOT be allowed to practice or play. Make sure your child has shin guards EVERY day they come to play, or your child will NOT play.
No baseball or football cleats are allowed.
Wearing football or baseball cleats to play soccer is very dangerous to the other players. Here's why: Football and baseball cleats have a spike in the middle of the front of the cleat - right where the shoe will hit another player's shin. Soccer cleats have two spikes on either side of the front of the cleat (like a gap-toothed smile). This is safer for soccer playing. There are other differences as well, but this is the easiest way to tell.
While we encourage your child to wear soccer cleats, we do not require it. Your child can wear gym shoes instead. However, your child will not be allowed to play with football or baseball cleats.
No visible jewelry of any kind is allowed. It is against the rules of soccer. It is also unsafe.
Please make sure your child removes any/all of the following:
- earrings
- hair clips
- necklaces
- rings
- watches
Water!
Part of being prepared to play soccer, includes having a water bottle. It gets hot out there and your child needs to remain hydrated.
